"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."
This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

I was inspired by your knowledge on resistance training and diet.I have all your books and I just bought your new book. Thanks to you I started a low calorie diet, stopped doing cardio to burn the excess calories, and started with a cybex circuit that trains every major body part with a basic exercise.I started a diet that you emphasize, low calorie diet using the 4 food groups, Wow I'm already seeing my abs!And using machines is better than dead weight! You have open my eyes to the truth.Thank you!My health is great and I can take my shirt off at the beach! Thank you from Miami, Arnold

Dr. Darden, do you advise for or against pausing/resting for seconds at the end of a movement to get in more reps? For example, when I was doing bench press tonight I pushed through to get 12 reps. I hung up the bar for about 5 seconds and thought "I can do more." I did 2 more, hung up the bar for another 5 seconds and thought "I can do more." I did one more and had to hang up the bar just above my chest. Thank goodness for Smith machines and safety catches.
I'm not for doing rest-pause reps. Most of the time, you are not making a deeper inroad. You are simply resting, recovering, and repeating the same level of inroad. That's not an efficient method of training.
Dr.Darden You have through your books have shone me how to eat and train, and I have gotten better results than when I took steroids. My question is,I had a car accident and I had both hips replaced,I am back in the gym but I can't do squats. Will leg press work?

Try the leg presses. If you do them slowly and smoothly, they should work.
