"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Check out Arnold's new physique on Drudge. The photo was snapped while Arnold was on vacation in Hawaii. The photographer must have used a wide -angle lens.Nothing makes a body look worse than fat but where did Arnie's muscles go ?

I trained last year with Dave Draper. He still looks great.Dave is five years older than Arnold.

It's not what you used to do that counts, it's what you keep doing.

It's unfortunate that Arnold has let himself go so much. Perhaps if his schedule allows him little time to train he could give HIT a try :)

Especially considering he looked great in Terminator 3 which wasn't filmed all that long ago.

Arnold's got some catching up to do!

Maybe Sly should tell him he only needs to work out "three days a week" for an hour or so these days.

Guys,

I think Arnie has different priorities now. We know that the guys is DRIVEN and DEDICATED to whatever endeavor he undertakes and maybe Bodybuilding is not at the TOP of his priority right now especially now that he is the GOVERNOR of CALIFORNIA.

I think whatever shape (physiquewise) he is on right now is quite insignificant compared to his contribution to the sport and his
acheivements in life. He's already an AMERICAN ICON.

PEACE.

Arnolds' contribution to bodybuilding? What exactly is it? Drugs are O.K. ? His support of Joe Weider who has almost single handedly destroyed bodybuilding? As a governor , some of his ideas are very good but others are just plain stupid, such as mandatory health insurance. I have met him , I have seen him in action and I am not that impressed with him as a man. If he changes some of his socialist ideas I might change my mind.

Neural,

But, that's not the point. The point is, no one -- especially a former bodybuilder -- should let himself deteriorate like that or be in that condition.

Age and priorities are no excuse here.

Everyone on the board who thinks Age and health isn't an excuse and are over the age of 45, put your picture up from one taken in last week.See if you outshine him.

It takes less than two hours a week to do the job. If that's him, it is pitiful. The comment about Draper is right on. Further, I'm 46 and about 7 pounds out from 7%. And I'd be happy to post proof--give me about 8 weeks. Now, how do I post a picture?--I got eight weeks to figure it out--I need the kick in the butt to do it. Thanks!

Guys,
Why do we even care. He obviously does not care. Why sould we make a big deal out of this. He has entered the political arena now. He no longer has a financial stake in staying shape like Stallone does. He can hide everything in a well taylored suit. Why does society celebrate people when they create this larger than life image of themselves and when we see them fade back into mortal humans we can't bear to see it.
I have to agree with Bill 1, though Arnold brought bodybuilding to the mainstream, he also helped bring everything we try to educate against out to the mainsteam also.

bill1,

Whether you like it or not it's a FACT that Arnold introduced Bodybuilding to the mainstream. He was the one who made Bodybuilding acceptable to the public eye.

About his POLITICAL VIEWS I'm not really very familiar with most of it but those are beside the point. I not saying that he is a SAINT because I'm sure he has his flaws as we all do.

Furthermore you can say anything you want about the Arnold but bottomline is that the guy has acheived more than what you will ever acheive in 5 life times!

Like what Iron395 said, what do we care if he is still in shape or not. The guy has already made his mark in the sport as one of the BEST. What else does he have to prove?

PEACE.

bill1,

I've noticed that in some of your post you always have to interject insulting words calling people STUPID, etc. I mean have you seen yourself in the mirror lately ?

I hate to say this but if you are trying to impress us that would be a IMMATURE WAY of doing it. Impress us with your intellegence not with your TRASH TALK !

Proposing mandatory health insurance is as stupid as you can get. Ditto for using drugs to increase a tolerance for exercise. What has he achieved? All that glitters is not gold.

Reeves,

Draper sure does look good these days, but he must be hitting the sauce in a major way. He looks better now than when he was in his twenties, competing. He's leaner and yet he stll has the mass? Where you training with him up in the Santa Cruz area?

That's some pretty harsh and unforgiving lighting in that picture of Arnold up there. He sure didn't get that additional weight from his wife's cooking. Maria Shriver is ripped. Maybe Arnold is eating her food as well as his own.

Neuro,

As Governor, Arnold advertises himself as being socially liberal and fiscally conservative and that's the crux of his political platform. He has been given high accolades by several conservation groups, which is historically unusual considering his party affiliation.
California was driven into such financial shambles that if he's able to get some of the old guard to speak, let alone work with one another, it will be considered a major political accomplishment.

I agree that Arnold was a major factor in bringing weight training to the general public, but I agree with Bill 1 that most all of what Weider and Arnold did for exercise were ultimatly negative. And speaking of Weider, and stretch marks, what is this bit you read all the time about Arnold being 6 feet 2 inches tall? I think 6 feet even is more accurate.

Hello Eintology,

Dave Draper is my hero. Most of the time when you meet a bodybuilding superstar you realize they are just jerks who inherited the right genes to build muscle. In 39+ years of lifting I have been disapointed many times to learn that great bodies usually are selfish, greedy users in more ways than one.Dave loves the sport and gives back more than any other top bodybuilder I know.He would be the first to give credit to Laree, his wife.

His Irononline discussion group has a Bomber Bash each year. I attended in
July,2003 in St Pete,Florida. We had a great time eating, lifting, and talking 60's bodybuilding. You can hear the seminar by Dave and Tom Incledon at Dave's website.Dave provided the seminar and the food for our cookout at Ft. Desoto park free,no charge.Does Arnold care about his fans this way?

The night before, I met Dave at a downtown mall.I walked up to him, introduced myself and we talked for three hours. It was better than playing golf with Tiger Woods.Dave was completely unassuming, just a shy lifter from New Jersey who still loves muscles.
I do not believe he uses drugs or has in years.I know he did probably in the 60's and early 70's. It is no secret he abused other drugs later. Then he became a Christian and met Laree and turned his life around. I am happy for them.

Dave has cut his training down through the years from six to five to four days.He trains to maybe 90% failure. He still squats and deadlifts.

They are planning the 2005 Bomber Bash in California. This years guest is Bill Pearl.I am on the other coast building subdivisions but I would love to be there.(Thanks Dave from Geno)

RTestes,

I have been more inspired by the things you have said about your training on these threads, than anything I have seen from Arnold in the last I don't know how many years.

I wasn't going to expand on this, but here goes ... Arnold's office building, and restaurant, Schatzi On Main, is very close to where I live in Santa Monica. We know some of the same people, and I speak fluent German (my mother is from Switzerland) so we got on famously. I have nothing against the man other than that he and Weider were instrumental in taking bodybuilding in the direction it is today. Which is essentially in the tank and heading South. The first time I saw Arnold was several years ago in front of Schatzi and he was shorter than me by at least an inch closer to two. I am 6' 2". I know what you are saying about height loss over time, but Arnold would have been too young for normal paramiter disk compression to set in. At least I would hope that would be the case, or else he will soon be 5' 7"?

As far as Weider is concerned, and his ability to exaggerate the most benign topic, there isn't a sifter big enough. My favorite Weider article was one my oldest brother pointed out to me titled, "Sergio Oliva - The Body That Could Have Been." I guess Oliva didn't sign a contract with Weider that year.

Have you ever heard his brother Ben Weider speak on the subject of bodybuilding? And they say the film industry has nepotism involved. They must have to point and guide Ben Weider in the direction of the stage for him to wtch a bodybuilding contest, let alone be able to judge one.

When Arnold and Ferrigno where in their heyday , platform shoes where the norm. I Am 6'1" and I have stood next to both of them , Arnold in 74, Ferrigno in 76, and neither one of them was as tall as they claimed to be. Arnold was supposed to be 6" 2" and claims for Lou ranged from 6' 6" to 6" 5".
Knock about 2" off and you will have it about right.

If that is a picture of Arnold and not a doctored one, all I can say is , oh how the mighty have fallen.

It looks like his structure and you can even see the incisional scar from a heart surgery, so if I had to guess, I would say that is him.

Does HVT work ? There is your proof.

I was at a fitness convention at the Orlando convention center in 1996 where Lou Ferrigno was representing Strive equipment. I was standing near the MedX exhibit talking with Jim Flanagan who is about 6'4" or 6'5" when Ferrigno walked by. I thought Ferrigno looked a few inches shorter than Jim.

Of course, a poorly taken picture of Arnold is proof that HVT doesn't work. There are no older guys that train with volume and still look great. Frank Zane, Bill Pearl, Dave Draper, Lee Haney, Lou Ferrigno and all those volume trainers look like crap.

Of course the HIT ers all looked great into ols age. Yates looks absolutely marvelous these days. The Mentzers looked great before they passed away. Sergio definitely kept that trim waist and wide shoulders of his.

I've attached a different photo of Arnold, probably taken that same day. As you can see he doesn't look that bad at all.
