An electrical current travels up one leg, through your groin, and down the other leg. The more fat you have, the more it impedes the electrical current (since fat tissue is low in water), and it provides an 'electrical impedence' reading that is figured with an equation to give you a body fat percentage. It literally guesses as to the fat around your midsection and upper body. Inaccurate, particularly the more over weight or the more muscular you are.
