I believe he had a pituitary tumor that caused him to secrete GH his whole life. Not at all healthy, I believe he died at age 40 or 41.

Sorry guys about the pic, my computer's being a jerk(that's my excuse). It was of Andre standing with Arnold and an ex basketball player called Wilt from 1984's Conan the Destroyer(nowhere near as good as Barbarian was)and it just struck me how weight increases disproportionatly to height. I know Andre was a fat guy but boy, he was huge!

With current medical advances there will probably be few, if any true giants in 50 years time.

When he wrestled, Vince Mcmahon claimed Andre was 7'4". Of course wrestlers heights and weights have always been exaggerated for years. Mcmahon would stand on a stool when he would interview Andre so he would appear even taller.

I have a video tape of Wrestlemania 5 where Andre is introduced as 7'4" and 520 lbs.

A few months ago I watched an hour special on Andre the giant. It was fantastic. They listed how much food/beer he would consume on a night out with his friends. I don't eat that much in a week! It said some idiots were at a bar in Canada one time and started messing with him. He walked out and turned their car over.
