"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Please post any video links or great pics here.
Jay Cutler wins and Ronnie doesn't even come in second. Ronnie came in 4th. The top guys didn't appear as cow bellied as years past.

The first link I posted no longer worked and that is a shame because it showed all the top guys posing. I posted a different one now.

This is a big one. You can get a look at all the top guys. I don't know the significance of all the rounds but this is the prejudging.

Link fixed. The first one wasn't what it was supposed to be.

Some comparisons below.

At 45 seconds in the first one, you can hear a voice that sounds like Joe Weider's. It says "Jay is way off" and makes additional comments. You have to listen closely.

Posedown and final placings.

Dennis Wolf of Germany has 5th - he has a more classic physique.

The final three video is bad. I will update with a better one if I can.

Man, those guys really look like a complete mess! Let's hope bodybuilding sorts itself out fast!

I don't think there will be any fast changes but slowly perhaps. I do think they have improved slightly but I would never spend money to follow the sport. I am only interested to see where the sport is going year by year if I can do so for free.

I personally prefer the physiques of the 40's and 50's.. A fair amount of muscle and lean, but not ripped. An amount of muscle that can naturally be built and a level of leanness that can be maintained throughout the year without compromising health.

I'm not happy with the way guys look these days either but I am in awe with the mass. I accept it as the way BB has just evolved ; people wanted bigger and that's what you got - bigger. I still don't seethe fuss about Jay Cutler - I think alot of guys looked better than him.

I remember when I considered Franco a beast at 5'5" and 185 and now you have someone in there at 5'6" and 230-240 and 4%BF , incredible .

One of my favorite physiques from back in the day was Robbie Robinson. I'm still blown away with the scene in Pumping Iron when Ken Waller and a few others are watching Robbie hitting a few poses and Robbies back looked like it had rocks moving around under his skin when he hit a back double biceps.

Anyone who followed it closely back then know what Robbie's weight and height was ? And why didn't he get further than he did in BB ; physique flaws or he just wouldn't kiss Weider's ass ?

We watched the whole Bodybuilding.com broadcast. Yuk. In the Golden Age, it was common practice to have various "best bodyparts" awards - best arms, best abs, for example. With the Olympia, they could change that to "biggest butt" and "most disproportionate". Those massive thighs capped with huge butts on one end, disappearing into suggestions of calves weathered by polio.

I also thought the posing was terrible. Not a thought toward aesthetics so characteristic of Arnold and Frank Zane.

I still feel the pharmaceutical companies ought to take it over, renaming it Mr Pharmacopia, including lifetime studies of all competitors as the first longevity study of growth inducing hormone diseases and abnormalities.

At least the women looked real - and human.

Terry Todd purchased a replica of the Farnese Hercules for Mark Henry's wedding at the Double T Ranch. I'd never seen it up close before. In my opinion, the folks of the third century BCE had a better fix on optimal human development than does the Mr O.

It's interesting to remember that Iron Man's reader survey of several years ago showed fifty-one percent rated Zane and Reeves most desirable, while the remaining forty-nine percent spread among about ten guys showed not a one of them receiving even ten percent of the vote.

Both Cutler and Coleman look way off. Like they're retaining a lot of water. Martinez and Jackson look much better (relatively speaking) --- more ripples and less bloat.

Interesting soundtrack for this one:

Where's Mark Dugdale? At 5'6" and 210-215, he at least brings a little more sanity to the proceedings. To top it off, he always come in ripped and tight, unlike the illustrious "top dogs".

I remember in my M&F/Flex reading days a description of a six-exercise giant set that Robby did for his back before a contest. He went through it something like 3 or 4 times.

He was also one of those great small-waistline guys. I think he said he only trained abs starting 3-4 weeks out from a contest.

Ahhh, those were the days...

I got thinking about Robinson after my post and did a search on him and discovered his website.

I didn't realize he was still involved in it and competing up until a few years ago ; even beating Ferrigno for the masters Olympia.

I watched a video of him on there and was disappointed to see him with the big stomach the current guys are carrying around. It isn't a fat waist I'm complaining about, it's muscular and cut but the ab muscles are BIG and stick out like everything else.

It's no doubt a result of some new drug they are all using and heard others say that it's the growth hormone that's resulting in those bigger ab muscles. Everyone has them now .... and Robbie used to have a girl's waist.

Ditto,

If he lives up to his potential, Jay is on his last year.

Very few weak points, and he is not blocky and squatty, yet incredible mass.
