"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Turpin

Heres a thread where you can post your pics ( past or present ) in order to show & explain how you came about the the `fruits of your labour`.

Dont be shy !

The Above pics was the most `complete` I feel I was in terms of condition/balance and strength. I was in my late teens and using Mentzers `ideal` routine ( with the exception of my leg workouts ) , where due to a back injury only isolation work was performed.

I look forward to seeing YOUR pics ( please )

Best wishes T.

Great pics Turpin. You were certainly in excellent condition. Were you using the Ideal Routine exactly as written in Mike's book? i.e. hitting each upper body muscle group once every 2 weeks and lower body once per week. Also, do you think you will ever go back to the Ideal Routine considering the excellent results you gained from it?

Cheers mate

About a year ago Scott had a thread asking the same thing. About 20-30 people posted.
I couldn't find it. Perhaps Scott know what he titled and we can bump it back up.

Hi DUL.

My routine was a variation of Mikes `ideal` routine It was around this time ( a year previous ) that I injured my back and resorted to `bodybuilding` exercises/routines rather than my usual powerlifting , as I couldnt squat/deadlift or do anything that put any undue strain on my lower back ( hence the loss of musculature/size in my thighs as a result , but a lessening in the thickness of my mid-section too I feel )
This `variation` of M.Mentzers `ideal` routine meant that I was Working out twice weekly (IE; Sun-Thurs-Tues-Sun )
So each body part/exercise was hit once every 2 weeks.

1; Chest , Shoulders , Triceps.
Heavy incline flys/Incline DB press
D/B Laterals/DB Press
Rear laterals
EZ Bar tricep ext/EZ Bar close grip bench.
( all exercises were supersetted without any rest )

2; Back , biceps.
Straight arm pulldown/underhand pulldown
D/B rows
Shrugs
single arm concentration curls.

3; legs.
Leg ext , leg curl , single leg D/B calf raise.

I stayed with routine making gradual progressions in resistance over the years and tinkering with volume and frequency as/when I saw my progress falter , hence Im now at where I am ie; using a `consolidated routine` & have been for some 8 or so years.
I often re-visit the `ideal` routine when I fancy a change/variety , and Im sure if I applied myself over some 8 weeks or so ( as I did with the TUL study ) I could get into good shape as a result , and to date I can at least work my legs on the leg press.

Best wishes , T.

Great pics. Do you do any barbell work any more? I believe I read in an interview with you where you had quite an impressive deadlift. Wouldnt be surprised by the musculature in your back.

Thank you!!!! I'm 39y/o

i'm no where near as big as the other Pro Bodybuilders, but the judges will often place me well on the aesthetic component. The guys who win are much more freaky and blocky.
