"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Today is "a feast day" for Saint Martin De Porres, which had me reading-up on his life. The entry in Wikipedia stated that Saint Martin De Porres was mentioned in the novel of "A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES", which led me to read-up on that book. The title of the novel is derived from the epigraph by Jonathan Swift of "When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him."

That quotation reminded me of what Arthur Jones said happened to him often: IGNORE, RIDICULE, ATTACK, COPY, STEAL. By the way, my apologies if Arthur Jones had, in fact, mentioned (somewhere in his vast body of work) "A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES", which wasn't printed until 1980 that was eleven-years after the suicide of the author.

The novel, by the by, is set entirely in New Orleans, which Arthur Jones resided not too far from in the town of Slidell, Louisiana. The photograph was mentioned by the following link to be of a private-zoo that Arthur Jones operated in Slidell.

Nice post. Did you notice the man handling the rattlesnake in the middle picture on the link. I'll be damned, i believe that's a young Arthur Jones! and cool pic too I hear about this place all the time as folks in Louisiana are very familiar with that landmark back in the day. maybe im wrong about the pic..

Funny how the human brain sometimes tries to "fill in" unclear information. I could not quite totally make-out the sign in the photo, but thought it said "Rep-time" Jungle. Was thinking how odd that the word "rep" would be used for a gym name long before it was part of common vernacular.

My brain "assumed" for me that it was a gym Jones had back in the day called RepTime Jungle.

Now THAT would've been one heck of a gym, with Jones out on the gym floor berating the clientele into higher intensity training.

After I posted my initial post, I found an auction that told a little story about how a guy in 1980 met Arthur's first wife that helped him catch snakes. This is the picture he was auctioning.

I wouldn't feel comfortable in that second to last shot. Not just one or two snakes a good many snakes. Mental.
