"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

I came across this while researching something else. Mr. (Dr.?) Ariel has an on line book called "The Discus Thrower and His Dream Factory" Chapter 11 is about the "war" between Nautilus and Universal (from Universal's standpoint of course) I didn't read the whole thing but there are some photo's I have never seen before of both Nautilus and Universal machines and a bunch of "scientific" analysis. Thought it might make for some interesting discussion here rather than the usual blather. I would post a link but I am not that internet savvy...

I used to work at the clinical back surgery/ rehab facility in Texas. Gideon Ariel came and did a "workshop" which was basically promoting an isokinetic exercise machine he had a financial stake in. I remember he seemed to be more of a salesman than scientist, and the unit was (IMO) bio-mechanically inefficient.

The usual blather. I seems that right now the usual blather is at an all time high with a whole bunch of new posters who come on like they think they have the answers to this stuff. What would really be great would be a section on here where some of the old timers who actually where there with Nautilus, Universal or whatever system like a Tim wood or Ken Hutchins or whoever could come on here and talk about the old days with out being driven off by some ass hole who gives them crap. Perhaps a section where questions could be put forth to them but comments are not allowed. It's the jackass comments that always drives these folks away.

I read the whole thing a couple years ago. Arthur Jones said Ariel was a liar and full of bullshit. Jones side of the story is much different, I knew Arthur Jones and I know what he accomplished so I would have to conclude that what you read has some truth, but not much and what truth is there is twisted and most certainly does not tell the whole story.
I saw his machines on the web and the source of resistance will NOT do what he says it will .

If I remember correctly, Muscle, Smoke, and Mirrors #2 has a few chapters about him.
