"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Sandbag carries: nah, no probs with my back. I struggle with conventional deads and, now, trap bar deads. Anything else is cool. Plenty of sand here on the island of Islay right next to me. Looking forward to this.
Ha! You saw Flash? I was thinking of include a few of his choicest quotes here but they're either obscene or our American cousins might question our sanity.

Cheers,

Just checked the Radien bag. Looks good. Ordered. I have an old canvas bag that I was planning on using but the fact you can use the Radien for presses or like kettlebells was a big plus.
Rik Mayall as Flashheart must be one of the greatest performances in comedy. If you can upstage Rowan Atkinson you must be doing something right.

Ill make this my last post here, this is not the place for such a log, thanks to those whom checked in and followed. The point of the log was to hopefully show that a person with multiple serious health issues shouldnt wrap themselves in cotton wool, and that there should be no excuses. But hay, rice n beans is better reading.
My training has changed direction, toward one I was encouraged by dogmatic HIT coaches to steer clear from. Turns out, getting my ass off the machines and developing strength on my feet, training explosively, frequently -but still intensely, and not "accentuating the negative" has made me a much stronger, healthier, more functional moron.....opps, I mean individual.

Had my first workout in years with the sandbag. Great fun! Went to the beach, filled the Radien for a series of exercise--squats, rows, presses--then filled it up to the 2nd band (150lbs) and did a 500-yard carry back to the car. Not a good idea as the first part involved climbing a 40-foot sand dune. Tried using a Zercher hold before arms gave out and had to do the rest with the bear hug.
As a change of pace this was wonderful. Reminds me of what I felt when I first started weights. All new and every workout something different.
Thanks for mentioning this, Rob. An exercise protocol that's sadly neglected by many, perhaps because it's thought of as being part of strongman--and all you need is an empty bag.

Cheers,
Ray

And to you, Rob. Sorry to read you're ending your training log. I don't think people on the board are as hidebound as you think as many are in the same boat as you and haven't had optimal results from HIT protocol. Perhaps those who remain stalwarts are the most vocal though.
I still have a residual debt to HIT as it was the writings of Jones and Darden that really got me into weightlifting. Albeit, the rantings of Mentzer were an influence I wish I'd avoided.
Nonetheless, considering your many health issues and continued progress I can only wish you the best for the future. Just keep off roofs!

Cheers,
Ray

Decided to restart this log, if anything its good for me to look back on.

Contemplating on competing in a push / pull only natural 120kg powerlifting meet down the line, so ive recently began training the deadlift and power clean fatigued.

Current routine...

WO A
Paused bench
Deadlift
One arm DB Preacher curl

WO B
Box squat
OHP
Power clean or Hex bar landmine row

Training every day, havent had a day off in 5 weeks, feel great, low back feels great. The hex bar deadlift has been put on ice for now. Recently had blood work done, all is good.

Diet hasnt changed much, i dont eat that much through the day, and a big ass meal at night.

Found out last week the NIPO arent planning on hosting any push / pull only meets next year, seems they dont get enough numbers for such meets. Not to worry.

New goal, Dan got me thinking about 5x5 last week, so thought id give 6x6 with the same weight on each set a go. Routine is similar to an old school Vern Weaver routine. Ill do this till Santa has been and gone.

Diet wise, ive reverted back to a mostly plant based diet believe (still have steak twice per week and some eggs), been eating lots of lentil stews and chunky winter veg soups with ezekie bread, cashew and almond butters, rice and hemp protein shakes with MCT oil, cacao and banana. I dont actually eat much fruit, pasta, rice or any veg from the brassica family.
