"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Fat, chubby arms, 100% agree, Drew needs to workout once in a while and stop telling everyone else how to do it ... pathetic

Your shallow minds are why HIT is dead except for a few diehards. And yet you persist.

I often wonder what you will do after this forum ends?

He looks like a middle aged guy who lifts a little and likes to eat. I can certainly sympathize with the *likes to eat* part.

It is difficult to say how much muscle he is carrying, or whether or not it is a decent result for his genetics. If he got leaner, it would certainly help the sales pitch (without changing the content of his message). But getting leaner is more a matter of the effectiveness of his diet than the effectiveness of his training program. And do you need to be lean in order to teach others how to perform HIT strength training?

For the longest time his web site prominently featured a picture of himself from 1995, showing himself in ripped condition. That was getting to be a bit disingenuous, since he hasn't been ripped in a very long time. So I agree in that regard - he hasn't been a stellar example of how to get and stay ripped.

I recall reading a funny comment on one of his youtube videos, it read " this young man seems to know a lot about training...when is he going to start lifting himself". Made me chuckle that one lol.

Poor Drew ... he needs to drop that once per week machine only HIT cult mindset, move some iron and put some meat on those noodle arms. The medium is the message ...

Cheers

Is that the convention for young guys who can't figure out how to get laid?

Hollis, Drew has done his fair share of slabbering about others in the HIT and exercise field. Moreover, he not that long ago put out an article called "being fat is a choice", talk about the kettle calling the cooker black, he then puts ups photos of himself as a kid ripped for a BB contest (but as flat and skinmy as a pancake). No, it is because of people like him that HIT is dying.

He's still preaching the same old stuff. For the 5005th time we hear about the suntan analogy and how stress tolerance varies as does recovery, etc. Might as well toss in the mental midget to super genius spectrum analogy while we're at. But he still thinks everyone should always go to failure even if that means training once a week or less on 5 exercises for example.

What about if someone trains hard, but short of failure (at least much of the time) to stimulate growth while improving recovery possibly even allowing more volume and frequency for better overall results? Hmmmm.

That has been proven to work time and time again ...

working out once per week super slow however will produce physiques like Drew Baye, Skyler Tanner, Doug McGuff, Simon Shawcross ... and other fat skinny charlatans ...

And as for someone having to look like Mentzer to preach how to build muscle? Haven't we gone over this topic a million times? Do football coaches need to look like a 400 pound lineman to teach them how to tackle? Does a gymnastic coach need to weight 115 pounds ? Did John Wooden need to be 7 Foot 2 inches tall? Yes Drew doesn't look the part , what's more important though is the slop he preaches. He is nothing but parroting what he's heard somewhere else. Nothing new.

Too bad Arthur Jones isn't still alive so you could run that by him.
This is the same argument Arnold used against Dr Darden some time ago.
I believe they both spoke at an event and Dr Darden spoke first outlining HIT. Then Arnold came on stage flexed his arm and said to the crowd " Who are you going to believe? Him or me ? After which he went on to espouse a double split routine where you work out in the morning and again later in the evening, everyday, with multiple sets and exercises.
What someone looks like has nada to do with the ideas they hold.
A guy could be in a wheelchair, quadriplegic all his life and still know more about exercise than Jay Cutler.

Ent,

Like all the children here, you've been reduced to "show me a picture" as an argument. My suggestion would be to get a hobby and stop reading these posts daily.

Back to the original post "Not looking the part"? I prefer a coach or trainer to be experienced, knowledgeable, and able to communicate effectively but you stick with your visual checklists I'm sure that will work...

the first video is explaining strength and how to get stronger...not muscle building or one set training once a week as being the only way to train...have no issues with this one because even powerlifters have a gut

the second video is lame and would not listen to him

what does weighing 300 lbs have anything to do with it...Dr Darden is in his 70's and I have not seen him in a t-shirt lately and he has authored numerous books and was also one of the fellows who was there during the nautilus days...so I will give him the respect he deserves

my point is this for those who missed it

go to youtube and watch some of Arnolds latest training videos
they are sloppy with a bunch of sets and he supposedly trains almost everyday and in his 70s he looks pretty darn good (don't throw the steroid argument around on this one)

therefore, who would I listen too if was to begin, change or resume a training routine....HIT or volume

I am not criticizing drews knowledge, but if you want to sell something or have people follow then you should at least strive to make it believable

I am an HIT follower and I love training this way, my mind isn't shallow
and what am I being persistent about?
I am allowed to criticize an individual who gets up in front of an audience to preach a style of training when his appearance is terrible..
if John Heart was up there...I would pay attention
if Markus Reinhardt was up there I would listen (before the drug days)
if Stephen Deininger was up there I would listen
if anyone who preaches volume work and looked like Drew...I would be just as critical

and no I do not look the part either..but I am not in front of an audience preaching my way or the highway training

He is almost 70 right now and still in great shape ... did Drew, Skyler or MacGuff ever looked like this? ... I think IMHO that if you are a man telling an audience how to build muscle, you must at least look in great shape ... I have built a considerable amount of muscle myself using HIT as well as HV. Even at almost 60 if you see me in person you will not doubt know I train. So when an out of shape skinny fat charlatan (like many HIT cultists) try to
tell us how to do it I think we have to call them out on their BS.
Regards.

I dunno guys, I think your being really hard on Drew, most of us weekend warriors don't 'look the part' either, regardless if we train HIT, or some other type of training. Drew used to look the part, now he's older, he's not competing, so I don't think he needs to be 200lbs and ripped just to pass 'his' preferred methods of training.
People are cynical, hard to please, Jay Vincent comes on here, and very well looks the part, then we cry 'drugs, genetics', etc. I don't think anyone can win for losing as they say.
I can't think of one 'guru' that isn't preaching what they heard, kinda hard now to make up something totally new, unless your into 'max pyramids' lol

I dont know any natural 74yo men that are 300lb and ripped, do you? (much sarcasm). Have a look at pics of Dr D in his hayday vs Baye.
