"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Questions for Dr. Darden:

Of all the people you trained who had the greatest muscle building potential and why?

Ellington Darden

I never trained Sergio Oliva, but I watched Arthur Jones train him a couple of times. Sergio had the most potential because of the length of his muscles.

The three guys, who also had long muscles, and I trained many times, were Casey Viator, Ray Mentzer, and Eddie Robinson. Close behind those three were Boyer Coe and Scott Wilson.

I would agree with Dr. Darden about top-level genetic potential and Sergio Oliva.

I was around him personally several times and is was almost unreal how much muscle was packed on his frame....(Long before the bloated 300lb. growth hormone monsters of today).

The effect of a (believe it of not) 29/30 inch waist, coupled with CRAZY big legs, lats and arms, led most people to just shake their heads in disbelief.

As I have said in the past, he is the only bodybuilder that I personally seen "just plain stop traffic simply walking down the street".

People not exposed to bodybuilding just stopped dead in their tracks (with their mouths hanging open), wondering that the heck just happened....

It was almost as if he had come from another planet. Really something to see.

Good training to all!

The greatest potential I ever saw belonged to a West Indian guy. He was massive with long muscle bellies and a tiny waist. He never trained his legs because they got "too big." They were way bigger than mine.

Whom do you refer to? I am certainly interested in knowing, as I would like to see a pic of that guy (maybe he was not a well-known bodybuilder and no pics are available, so I am out of luck).

He was a factory worked that I met. He only trained about twice a week. Sorry... no pics. This was many years ago.
