"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Hi, I have been training for near 1 year. I started with basic split routine

1 day = chest and biceps

2 day = back and triceps

3 day = legs and shoulders

Every muscle group set was 3x8 with multi exercises for each muscles
ex for the chest will be " bench 1x8 , incline bench 1x8 , decline fly 1x8)

After near 6 months, I try for 1 month 1 set of 8 repetitions with multi exercises for each muscles

Now I m doing the HIT training from the book " The new High Intensity Training"
I started at beginer and now I m stating the 11weeks of the programe.

From each type of training, I gain muscle mass and strength. I belive the Hit programe give me more results by a net margain. My problem is that now after my workout my energie level is so down that I feel dizzy and I just want to sleep. I realise that If I eat rigth after the work out, my energie level is way better. I use creatine monohydrate every morning. I have BCAA, citruline malate, glutamine and ZMA that I don t really use because I did not really see any results from them in the past.

My question is what kind of pre and post workout did you use or eat to regain energy faster?

Thank you very much

Before they had all the supplements they have now , we used to eat a banana or pbj pre workout , some guys I know would sip tea or coffee during w/o . After, big omelet , steak, baked potato or rice .when raw eggs were safe sometimes milk shake or orange Julius w/ 2 raw eggs, protein drink . I tried creatine when it first came out made me sick , was allergic to its components ..
Here say, was a lot of the pros used other methods to get energy for workouts.

The most I will eat pre workout is a banana, most of the time I train fasted.

Post workout I wait an hour for the gh release to ebb, then I have a baked potato with butter, fresh shredded cheese and some sour cream. To drink i mix a scoop of whey, 1/2 scoop of micellar casein, 1 tbsp cacao powder, a couple shakes of cinnamon, a few ounces of heavy cream and the rest with whole chocolate milk. Totals drink is about 30 oz. I will eat my normal meal 4 or so hours later.

Its about the only carbs I have, other than the veggies I have with my meals.

I stop for coffee before the workout ... just a 'ritual' I've had forever. I usually train fasted but sometimes I'll get a couple hard boiled eggs with the coffee.

After the workouts it's either scrambled eggs and grits or whey with 1/2 and 1/2 cream.

I don't think it makes a fig of a difference what you eat right before or after a workout. It takes quite a while for the body to transfer energy or muscle building proteins from the food you eat. It's not like you eat some eggs and the protein shoots right to your worked muscles, ha ha.

Sleep.
If you are working out 3 times per week cut it to 2.
If you are working out twice per week cut it to once a week.
If you're already doing once a week cut it to once every 10 days.
Before you reduce the frequency of your workouts try reducing the number of exercises first, assuming you are doing one set per exercise.
" If in doubt do less. " - Arthur Jones
PS If anybody on this forum thinks they know more than Arthur Jones did they are delusional.
Beware studies with poor controls and remember consensus is meaningless.
Not long ago 1970's scientific consensus was that a new ice age was on the way due to global cooling caused by pollution reflecting the suns energy back into space. Ref Time Magazine.
1980s consensus was the earth was going to start " wobbling " due to man made reservoirs, dams and canals. - Science News

This is how Grant advanced to training three exercises twice a year.
