"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

I remember him coming to Kennedys Health Food store in Virginia when I was about 16 and he was a very friendly down to earth fellow with no pretenses that he was something special. He was something special to us though.

With those tree stump legs how could he ever break a hip?? That scares me because I have powerful legs and hips and I often think that would the last thing to break on me but I guess it happens ??

I wondered the same thing. With years of heavy lifting, his bones should have been very dense and strong. I thought that would have made a hip fracture very unlikely.

I know some older folks hip bones just break from osteoporosis because the bones just get weak but my 80 + year old dad broke his hip when he got dizzy and fell off a high porch and landed on concrete. I wonder which type incident was Dickerson?s fate?

There are various types and degrees of hip fractures, but if one takes a truly hard enough impact on a fall it can still happen to anyone...especially at an older age where fragility happens regardless.

The first time I saw him was the first time I saw a bodybuilder on tv.
He wax featured at the end of a Jonny Carson Tonight Show segment.
He came out in posing trunks did an excellent routine and sat and talked to Jonny briefly.
He was introduced as the first black Mr America
What I remembered the most what impressed me the most was not that he was the first " black " Mr. America.
His race didn't register with me at all.
What hit me , what amazed me, were his calves. They were absolutely enormous in appearance. I can still see them and it was the year he won the then highly prestigious Mr.America.
I wonder if someone has it taped or if it's in one of Carson's video sets.
Let's hope he doesn't have the goddamn corona virus but lets wish him a speedy recovery no matter what.

A lack of testosterone can make a man as susceptible to osteoporosis just as much as a woman is from low estrogen.

I gather that regular use of a proton pump inhibitor (heart burn drugs) can also cause issues. Just saw an article warning about bone fractures in children after prolonged use of proton pump inhibitors.
